Improved Algorithms for Online Load Balancing

چکیده
We consider an online load balancing problem and its extensions in the framework of repeated games. On each round, player chooses a distribution (task allocation) over K servers, then environment reveals server, which determines computation time server for processing task assigned. After all rounds, cost is measured by some norm cumulative computation-time vector. The makespan if \(L_\infty \)-norm. goal to minimize regret, i.e., minimizing player’s relative best fixed hindsight. propose algorithms general norms prove their regret bounds. In particular, \)-norm, our bound matches known proposed algorithm runs polynomial per trial involving linear programming second order programming, whereas no was previously achieve bound.

Load Balancing Algorithms for SPMDApplications ?
This paper deals with the problem of load balancing in SPMD parallel applications. Based on the study of recent work in the area, we propose a taxonomy that provides a terminology and a framework for describing and classifying the growing number of SPMD load balancing algorithms. This allows more thorough and systematic comparison studies of diierent load balancing techniques, helping designers...
متن کاملOffline file assignments for online load balancing
a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t We study a novel load balancing problem that arises in web search engines. The problem is a combination of an offline assignment problem, where files need to be (copied and) assigned to machines, and an online load balancing problem, where requests ask for specific files and need to be assigned to a corresponding machine, whose load is increased by this. We...
متن کاملOnline Load Balancing for Related Machines
In the load balancing (or job scheduling) problem, introduced by Graham in the 1960s (SIAM J. of Appl. Math. 1966, 1969), jobs arriving online have to be assigned to machines so to minimize an objective defined on machine loads. A long line of work has addressed this problem for both the makespan norm and arbitrary lq-norms of machine loads. Recent literature (e.g., Azar et al., STOC 2013; Im e...
متن کاملImproved Strategies for Dynamic Load Balancing
work speeds of some LANs have exceeded 100 Mbits per second, thereby reducing the penalty of interprocessor communication. So, dispatching tasks from heavily loaded computers to lightly loaded ones to improve system performance is both logical and feasible.1 Researchers have proposed many techniques to allocate jobs dynamically in a LAN or multiprocessor system to improve performance. For simpl...
متن کاملOn Simple Algorithms for Dynamic Load Balancing
This paper focuses on the dynamic resource allocation problem. In communication networks such as wireless or circuit switching networks, resources correspond to base stations or links, and the load corresponds to the calls in the network. The principle of load balancing is examined for dynamic resource allocation. The question of interest is the performance of simple allocation strategies which...
